Entertainment apps have big future in Africa – Djoss.tv

Mobile entertainment apps have a big future in Africa, as demand is rife among young people on the continent for round-the-clock portable entertainment, according to the founders of Cameroonian television-based social networking site Djoss.tv.

Djoss.tv is an online and mobile social forum which aims to connect people watching the same television programmes, allowing viewers to chat and discuss the programme they are watching.

Speaking to HumanIPO, Djoss.tv founder Patrick Ndjientcheu predicted television will remain a key entertainment tool in Africa, but a move to providing mobile ways to connect and be entertained is key to the social environment on the continent. MORE…

Senegalese startup wins the VentureOut Challenge for Africa

Marodi.tv, an online video platform broadcasting African content, has won the Africa category at this year’s VentureOut Challenge, walking away with US$10,000 USD and six months worth of mentorship.

The announcement of the win was made Chisinau, Moldova.

The VentureOut Challenge Prize is organised by Infodev, backed by the World Bank and CRDF, and it is an award for new mobile applications developed in Africa, the Caribbean and Eastern Europe.

“The winner and finalists were selected based on the potential for their application to be scaled up in terms of revenue-generation and geographic reach,” said Senegalese startup Marodi.tv, while acknowledging their position and the prize. MORE…
